With a passionate and ever-growing catalog of diverse projects, nic violets strives for singularity within a crowded community.
Nicholas Paul Roache (born November 12th, 1996), and known professionally as nic violets, is an American artist, songwriter, designer, creative director, and entrepreneur. As a prominent figure in the Boston music scene, violets is widely known for his melodic, genre-bending sound. His artistic inception occurred at a young age after attending a music production class in middle school.
A make-shift studio in his bedroom consisting of a pirate copy of Mixcraft and a USB microphone borrowed from the Playstation 2 relic Singstar was the humble beginning for violets. Lacking the skill, guidance, and direction at such a young age and for fear of ridicule in a small, suburban town, nic was forced into hiatus.
While the initial run of recording artist aspiration was short-lived, new avenues of creativity emerged in the early highschool years. nic focused on the production aspect of music, building a successful streetwear clothing brand, and his academic endeavors.
In 2016, before dropping out of college, nic was coerced by a close friend to step back into the threshold of songwriting. Together, the two formed a collaborative effort called SomeFellas. This too was a fleeting moment in the timeline, but gave nic the confidence to re-embark on his solo career. He began writing songs and creating melodies daily.
This newfound conviction of talent led to the release of the 2017 5-track EP Sweet Chaos which featured Atlanta-based rapper Nessly. Shortly after celebrating the small victory, nic had a goal to curate other creative minds in the seemingly dry city, and so he began to form a collective of artists known as DEADLOCK RIOT. Consisting of Coop, Woody Pond, Tanj, Racca, Kingfrom98, Prettyboy Kelsey, Will Curtin, Owen White, EJ Noro, mlshigh, Jazzmania, and Brevin Kim before signing to No Matter Music, the group was focused on the growth and distinctive sounds. The group is currently under a re-branding phase.
As time progressed, violets would start to hone in on what he was sonically capable of. He released his first single of 2019, Cartier Kisses which features Rapta, to critical acclaim, landing a placement on Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist which was trailed by numerous publications.
In the present, violets is expanding his role as a recording artist into something much greater. While engineering, mixing, and mastering his own music, nic is now playing a part in the journalistic aspect of the industry as well; writing about other musical discoveries for TanjTV and Grooverelly. Maintaining and recruiting new members for the DEADLOCK RIOT collective and tirelessly designing new platforms has the 23-year-old tied up for the moment, but we can expect a new project very soon.
